What we believe in

We believe in the potential of people living in poverty. We support and encourage children, their families and the aging.

The core of what we do

Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation believes in the potential of the poor to effect change in their own lives and in our world. Our sponsorship program connects individual sponsors with a child, youth or elderly person in need of encouragement and support. Hope for a sponsorship goes beyond the basics of providing food, education, health care and livelihood programs. It gives families hope that they can create a path out of poverty for their children.

One size does not fit all

Our charity works with families on an individual basis because sponsorship isn't one-size-fits-all. We listen to families, tailoring the sponsorship benefits to their needs, and giving them the tools to make a better life for their children. Livelihood training programs, parent groups and adult literacy classes are some of the ways we would like to support and encourage families.

Mission Statement

Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation’s mission is to take hands  with the poor and marginalized people of South Africa.

°We provide personal attention and direct benefits to children, youth, aging and their families so they may live with dignity, achieve their desired potential and participate fully in society.
°We invite people of good will to live in daily solidarity with the world’s poor through one-to-one sponsorship.
°We build community by fostering relationships of mutual respect, understanding and support that are culturally diverse, empowering and without religious or other prejudice.

Core Values

Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation’s Core Values are defined as beliefs or principles which guide the decisions within our organization.

Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation is grounded in the Gospel call to serve the poor.

Honesty and transparency are necessary to operate an efficient and effective organization.

Recognizing the God-given dignity of each person is essential to sincere, lasting, loving relationships.

A relationship of mutual respect between sponsor and sponsored person is central to Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation 's mission.

The history of the Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation

Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation began in 2008 through the visionary leadership of Hanelia Grobler alias Hanna Grobler who always wanted to make people happy and have them believe in themselves. As a child Hanna had friends for whom her mom also needed to pack sandwiches. Hanna went to birthday parties that other kids didn’t want to go to.  When Hanna was still at school she worked on weekends at a place of safety and regularly visited patients in a geriatric institution. Whilst studying at the University of Stellenbosch she gave complementary art classes to the poor community of Cloetesville and had a children’s ministry.

Hanna registered Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation as a Non-Profitable Organisation for her charity work to continue helping the people she once served.

Responsible stewardship

Our commitment to responsible stewardship ensures contributions are used efficiently in support of sponsored friends and projects.

Accountability and Stewardship

Sponsorship of children, youth and the aging is the highest priority of the Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation. Our primary means of support comes from individual sponsors.

We assign the highest reasonable amount of available resources to the direct benefit of sponsored members. We aim to disburse at least 90% of funds raised in direct assistance to our projects for the benefit of the children, youth and aging persons we serve. Fundraising costs to invite new sponsors and donors are aimed at 3.0 percent of expenses with the remaining 7.0 percent used to fund general and administrative costs.

Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation’s approach to managing administrative expenses and reserves is one of balanced austerity. The organization seeks to maximize the amount sent to the field for sponsored members and projects while allowing for adequate investment so that we have sufficient resources to respond to the urgent needs of sponsored members and their families.

Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation is registered with the Department of Social Development as a non-profit organisation (NPO) and is a SARS approved public benefit organisation (PBO) for purposes of section 18A(1)(a) of the Act and donations to the organisation will be tax deductable in the hands of the donors in terms of and subject to the limitations prescribed in section 18A of the Act, and donations by or to the organisation are exempt from donations tax in terms of section 56(1)(h) of the Act.

Dignity of the Person
Recognizing the God-given dignity of each person is essential to sincere, lasting, loving relationships.
The dignity of each person is reflected in the structure and activities of Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation. The right of each person to participate fully in society, to have adequate food and housing, to have the opportunity to get an education and to develop their talents, is inherent to each person's dignity as a child of God.

Respectful Relationships
A relationship of mutual respect between sponsor and sponsored person is central to Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation's mission.

Hanna Grobler was born and raised in Pretoria. From a very young age she lived out her two greatest passions in life – Charity and The Arts. Hanna matriculated at the arts school Pro Arte Alphen Park in 2000. She specialised in Fine Arts but went on to study Drama at the University of Stellenbosch with a merit bursary. Through her studies she did a lot of stage productions but decided to do her honours degree in the most difficult post modern genre Performance Art. She combined Fine Arts and Drama in her post graduate studies with subjects from both to successfully complete her honours degree. At this stage she was also an Arts and Culture teacher at Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch.

Hanna did a lot of ground breaking work including Happenings, Installation Art to Big Performance Art Productions which weren’t something explored to this extend before in Stellenbosch. She was cast as a lead in the Site Specific play Skroothonde which won the Aardvark prize at Aardklop. After her studies Hanna moved back to Gauteng to focus more on her acting talent.

Hanna acted in many theatre productions including Witsneeutjie en die Dwergreus, a play written by Neels van Jaarsveld and directed by Herman Kitshoff, performed at KKNK 2005, Bloemfontein and Volksblad Art Festival, Aardklop 2005, Wie’tditgedoen, a play directed by Vicky Davis, performed at KKNK 2005, Le Chat Noir, a Cabaret, written and directed by Anneke Senekal for Aardklop 2005, Harmse, a Film Noir comedy, written and directed by Tertius Kapp, runner-up Nagtegaal award, Performed at KKNK 2006 and The Clanwilliam Arts Festival 2006 and Sielsiek, a play written and directed by Tertius Kapp and Willem Anker, performed at Aardklop 2006, to mention a few.

Since then Hanna acted in a number of TV and film productions including soaps, a sitcom, a game-show and drama series. In 2009 she took part as a contestant in MTN Celebrity Survivor Santa Carolina and was rated strongest female. Hanna was the only contestant to represent her own Non-Profit Organisation, The Hanna Charity and Empowerment Foundation, which was founded in March 2008.
